The University of Kansas Cancer Center received funding from the Kansas Masonic Foundation to purchase a mobile cancer screening vehicle, expected to arrive in late 2025 or early 2026. After soliciting names for the vehicle from the KU Cancer Center-Masonic Cancer Alliance Community Advisory Board, members of the cancer center’s patient research advocacy group known as PIVOT, and cancer center staff, the vehicle’s name will be HOPE on Wheels: Health Outreach, Prevention, and Education.
As the outreach network of KU Cancer Center, the Masonic Cancer Alliance will initially use the vehicle in and around Kansas City for training and local screenings. We will eventually expand services across the cancer center’s catchment area, which covers the entire state of Kansas and 18 counties in western Missouri.
The branded unit will include a mammogram room, exam space, screening/dressing area, medical refrigerator, bathroom, and phlebotomy station. This resource will boost MCA’s capacity for free screenings, deliver educational materials related to the cancer center’s priority outreach and research areas, raise awareness about cancer prevention, improve access to care, and expand research into the community.

We will regularly update this page as more information becomes available about HOPE on Wheels – stay tuned!
